Architectural Photography
CJB Photography provides many types of architectural photography. We have years of architectural photography experience, creating images of all types of buildings including new homes, hotel bedroom suites, carpet manufacturers and areas around council run schools using aerial photography.
The three main types of architectural photography are as follows:
- Exterior Photography
When creating exterior photographs CJB Photography always liaise with clients to ensure that we understand what images they are looking for and we examine any available architectural plans, maps etc, to ensure that the light will be at the best angle for the shot required.
- Interior Photography
CJB Photography have years of experience in producing interior photography, we believe that there are three key factors to consider when creating interior photography; interior viewpoint, lighting and health and safety.
- Aerial Photography
We use Ordinance Survey maps to accurately plan the aerial photographs our clients require us to produce. We also work out the best time of day to take the images to ensure we get the best possible lighting conditions. Typical subjects are usually factory buildings, industrial estates and green field sites.
We believe that there are three key factors to consider, when producing good architectural photography:
- Lighting
The front of the building is usually the view required, the angle of the sun is therefore vital when photographing exteriors to ensure adequate detail in the photograph.
CJB Photography deal closely with our clients to ensure we know the orientation of the building, this enables us to ascertain the best time of day to attend the site. This may be any time of day from early morning to late evening, ensuring we get the best use of light in the architectural photographs we produce.
- Viewpoint
Viewpoint is important, as it alters the perspective in the photograph. As can be seen in some of the accompanying architectural photographs, by taking the picture close to the building, we can obtain a dramatic perspective, either horizontally or vertically, or by moving away, we can get a more natural view point.
Coming in closer also makes the detail close to the camera much clearer. Finer detail can be lost when photographing the whole of the building.
The choice of viewpoint is important to be able to show any particular aspect of the building required by the client.
Different clients will want different aspects to be emphasized, and the viewpoint is chosen accordingly, for example, photographs for a roofing contractor will probably be taken from a higher view point than photographs showing the cladding on the side of the building.
- Verticals
A vertical in a photograph needs to be truly vertical, or at a whacky angle. Builders go to great lengths to ensure that their building is absolutely vertical so we do the same with our architectural photographs.
There are too many photographs now-a-days which are slightly off vertical and which look like a mistake. With our range of camera lenses, and computer programmes available to the professional photographer, there is no excuse for not getting it right.
