Interior Photography

We have many years experience of producing professional interior photographs, which includes work carried out for clients such as Cottage in the Wood in Malvern, Farrell UK based in Ireland and George Interiors in Bridgnorth.

CJB Photography believes that there are three main factors to consider when undertaking interior photography. These are as follows: interior viewpoint, lighting and health and safety.

Interior Photography - Restaurant Interior Photography - Leisure Industry

Interior Viewpoint

The same interior may need to be photographed in totally different ways, depending upon the client requirement.

interior Photography - Entrance Hall

For example, when photographing hotel rooms, if the photograph is for the hotel itself, the viewpoint needs to be higher than if the photograph is for the carpet manufacturer, who needs a lower viewpoint to show off his wares.

Whilst taking care to obtain the correct viewpoint for the end user, the same rules apply regarding uprights as for exterior photographs.

Interior Lighting

The correct use of lighting is essential. Different light sources have different colour temperatures, with the result that tungsten (normal room) lights appear to be red/orange, sodium (some street lights and factory lights) appear to be yellow, and most fluorescent lights are yellow/green. Daylight is blue in comparison to the above.

The secret of good interior photography is to have as few different types of light sources as possible within the area you are capturing.

The balancing of the various light sources is important to make the photograph look correct and appealing to the eye. If there are large areas lit by daylight, areas away from the windows need to be lit by using flash photography to achieve a good overall colour balance, otherwise they will appear to be dark and of a different colour due to the light sources within the room or indoor space.

interior Photography - Staircase

When creating interior photography within a hotel, the public spaces are light and airy, whereas the bedrooms, and perhaps the dining areas, are more homely, with warmer lighting. CJB Photography take great care in the way they use lighting, ensuring good photographic depth is produced to show different areas or separate rooms.

When the view outside can be seen, it is important to balance the amount of light inside with the natural light outside when creating professional interior photography. This is to obtain the effect that you would have seen with your own eyes and give a natural balance. It is in situations such as this that the balance of flash is so important not only for the amount of light, but also the colour temperature.

Health and Safety

If it is necessary to rearrange furniture, to give the desired effect, we endeavour to do so with the minimum disruption to the venue. We are also well aware of the need to follow health and safety guidelines when using our photographic lighting equipment on site, for example, taping down cables and protecting lighting stands.
