Commercial Photography

Commercial work covers anything from items photographed in a studio environment through to office furniture photographed in situ: from fine art to commercial vehicles: from photographs taken at a vets to a flaming grill plan taken for a hotel brochure. Creative lighting and viewpoint are essential and the key to a good commercial photograph.

Commercial progress photographs need to be taken from exactly the same position and show the same angle of view at each visit.

Therefore, on the very first visit, CJB Photography have a meeting with the site engineer, obtain site plans and between us decide on the necessary view points to ensure the full coverage of the works, and most importantly, that the view point required for the commercial photograph will still be there at the end of the project!

CJB Photography supply the progress photographs in sets, carefully labelled as to which view and the date taken, so that a record can be built up over the course of the progress photography project.

We have done many series of work in progress photographs, including:

  • Wates Construction
  • Tarmac
  • Laser Civil Engineering

Commercial Photography Case Studies

Case Study 1
GP Automotive

Commercial Photography Case Study 1

GP Automotive required commercial photographs of their new polished stainless steel exhaust systems. For their convenience, we took the 'studio' to their premises. The items were highly polished, and we needed to show the finish in the photograph. With the careful positioning of lights and reflectors we were able to light even right inside the tail pipe.

Case Study 2
MGA Interserve (kitchen manufacturer)

Commercial Photography Case Study 2

A large kitchen manufacturer, MGA Interserve, required commercial photographs of their kitchen, but without the expense of tying up a studio for several days, whilst each kitchen was built.

After close liaison the client built two 'studios' in their warehouse, where they constructed two kitchens at a time.

When they had two kitchens ready, we visited the site to take the necessary commercial photographs.

This saved both photographer and client considerable time and expense!

Case Study 3
Munster Simms

Commercial Photography Case Study 3

Munster Simms, trading under Whale Pumps, and based in Northern Ireland are involved with the building of wet rooms. CJB Photography have been involved in photographing many of these installations for their publicity purposes.

Lighting can be particularly tricky in these situations as we are surrounded by tiles, and when working in people's bath rooms, space can be very restricted.

They required commercial photographs of the whole bathroom, a closer view of the wet area, and normally the different shower heads. One particular challenge is to be able to photograph the water coming out of the shower head, which can only be done with the flash away from the camera.

Case Study 4
Musco Lighting, Installation of Flood Lights at Essex County Cricket Ground

Commercial Photography Case Study 4

Another interesting project was for Musco Lighting, who had installed new flood lighting at the Essex County Cricket Ground, for which they had hired a 140 foot cherry picker.

On arrival, Chris Bridgewater realised the location of the hydraulic platform was totally unsuitable, (too far away), and he negotiated with the Cricket Ground Management to move it much closer before the client arrived on site.

A series of commercial photographs were taken, starting with daylight in late afternoon, before the flood lights were put on, until it was dark, when the ground was lit by flood lights alone. The photograph shows the Ground taken at dusk, lit by flood lights alone, when surrounding area was going dark.

Although hydraulic platforms are very stable, when they are at full extension, some movement is inevitable due to the wind. Chris took with him a long rope with which he lashed the platform to the tow bar of his car to minimise this movement, ensuring the client received the best possible commercial photographs.
