Theatre Shows and Dress Rehearsal Photography

Lighting during theatre shows changes regularly, and light levels can be quite poor. Any use of flash photography would destroy the lighting effects being created for the show.

However, where most cameras would be unable to take any acceptable photographs at all, our range of specialist equipment enables us to obtain professional theatre show photography under these difficult lighting conditions.

CJB Photography offers a unique service whereby we attend your dress rehearsal free of charge and take a large number of photographs. By attending the dress rehearsal, we are able to move about comparatively freely, taking dress rehearsal photographs from different view points, to ensure the best possible coverage of the theatre show.

We endeavour to produce a range of images from complete stage set photographs down to individual actor portraits.

The dress rehearsal photographs that we create can be viewed on our lap top computer at the end of the dress rehearsal. Theatre show photographs for use front of house can be printed and supplied usually within 24 working hours for display in the foyer on the Opening Night of your event.

The theatre show photographs that we produce are also uploaded on to our web site for viewing by cast and friends, where they may order copies if they wish.

'Cinderella', The Swan Theatre, Worcester

Dress Rehearsal Photography Case Study

In any theatre show, it is important to capture not only the action on the whole stage, but also the individual actors.

Our digital equipment enables subtle lighting to be captured as can be seen in the accompanying photo taken during the dress rehearsal of 'Cinderella', at The Swan Theatre, Worcester.

Live Performance Photography

When taking live performance photographs, out of consideration for both performers and audience the utmost of discretion is used by CJB Photography at all times, and we operate with absolute minimum of movement.

Worcester Three Choirs Festival

Theatre Show Photography Case Study 1

CJB Photography's brief was to attend a variety of sites in and around Worcester to provide complete live performance photography coverage of the event for publicity purposes.

The coverage included individual soloists portrait photography for awards, ensembles and full choir group photography in Worcester Cathedral. These all had to be taken by available light as any use of flash photography could have distracted both performers and audience.

As usual CJB Photography were looking for unusual view points, to give eye catching pictures, and as live performance photographs were required not only of the performers, but also of the audience, at times we found ourselves up in the roof the cathedral.

Theatre Show Photography Case Study 2

When CJB Photography was commissioned to provide coverage of the Opening Night of The Thunder Rolls Tour, (Tribute to Garth Brookes), the brief was to capture the complete flavour of the evening, including audience participation, with live performance photography.

On this sort of event, with contrasting lighting and smoke effects, theatre show photography is quite a challenge! (Click here to see the pictures).
